Program Applications: NIH Medical Research Scholars Program

The National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, the world’s largest research hospital, continues a proud tradition of training the next generation of clinician-scientists. The Office of Clinical Research Training and Medical Education offers multiple opportunities for qualified students who seek experience in basic, translational, or clinical research.

Application Deadline: 1 December 2025

The NIH Medical Research Scholars Program (MRSP) is a premier, year-long research training program which seeks to attract talented, research-oriented medical, dental, and veterinary students to the NIH intramural campus in Bethesda, Maryland, and its satellite campuses. Centered on a robust investigation experience through a basic, clinical, or translational research project with an experienced mentor that matches their professional interests, the NIH MRSP also provides students with a dedicated curriculum of academic activities featuring world-renowned clinician-scientists, networking opportunities, and professional development workshops.

Over 600 alumni strong, the NIH MRSP has a proven history of helping launch the next generation of biomedical researchers into highly successful, impactful careers. The (Future) Doctor Is In | NIH Intramural Research Program offers a glimpse into how this career development program has benefited some of our recent students.

In addition, the NIH Clinical Electives Program offers year-round clinical opportunities for senior medical and dental students to gain clinical research exposure through rotations with services that are responsible for the clinical care of patients enrolled in protocols and clinical trials. Eligibility requirements and application information can be found on our website: NIH Clinical Electives Program.
